McCarus Technique: Outstanding laparoscopic technique for Hysterectomy by Dr. McCarus
The laparoscopic technique of removal of the uterus or “hysterectomy” is gaining more and more popularity as a minimal invasive technique. Traditional or open surgical techniques carry many disadvantages including: large painful abdominal incision, scar, longer hospital stay and recovery period (approx 6-8 weeks).
Dr. Steve McCarus, board-certified gynecologist with specialty in laparoscopic gynecological surgery and director of the Center for Pelvic health at Florida Hospital Celebration Health, has received enormous attention for his contributions in the development of the minimally invasive laparoscopic hysterectomy.
Before the development of the “McCarus Technique,” patients had to stay in the hospital for longer periods of time, followed by a recovery period of at least six weeks. Using Ultrasonic harmonic energy to perform hysterectomies via a tiny hole in the belly, the McCarus Technique offers early discharge from the hospital, averaging one day in most patients, followed by a shorter recovery period of only two weeks.
Dr. McCarus took the task of improving already existing techniques by gathering data and simplifying the method to show a proven outcome. After refining the instrumentation and collecting data, in 2006, he was able to develop a refined technique. He is now educating patients and physicians on the benefits of his well improved minimally invasive technique. He is also working with insurance companies and wants more and more people to know that this type of surgery is available to them, and to convince surgeons to become adept at performing it.
With ever increasing popularity of the “McCarus Technique”, physicians from all over the globe are coming to Central Florida to learn this state-of-the-art technique from him at the Nicholson Center for Surgical Advancement at Florida Hospital Celebration Hospital. The American Society for Women’s Health, founded by McCarus himself, and Florida Hospital Celebration Health has a Gynecologic Pelvic Surgery Fellowship Program which offers training to postgraduate residents.
Dr. McCarus is also well known for treating disorders such as endometriosis, uterine fibroids and incontinence, and offers infertility evaluations and hormone replacement therapy (HRT) consultations.

Another part of a neuro-oncology team is the surgeon. Florida Hospital Neuro-Oncology Center has dedicated neurosurgeons on staff remove solid brain tumors. Stop Smoking Programs in Central Florida
January 7, 2012 by Central Florida Magazine
Filed under Health & Beauty
Nicotine addiction is a reality for tens of thousands of people in our country and in the world. Stop smoking programs are abundant and are there to assist the smoker to quit successfully in a reasonable amount of time, and offer support and advice when it gets tough. It is easy to start but not easy to stop smoking. Many smokers stop more than once before they are finally able to quit for good. They try different stop smoking programs until they find one that works for them. It also depends greatly on how long the person has been smoking and how motivated they are to quit. Some people may find themselves diagnosed with a chronic or deadly illness, like emphysema, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), or even lung cancer. This should motivate people to quit immediately ‘cold turkey’ but sometimes it just isn’t enough. Smoking is so highly addictive that people choose to feed their nicotine addiction before they address their medical issues.
There are quite a few stop smoking programs available to those who want to stop smoking. A health care professional should be consulted first for advice regarding which stop smoking program, or combination thereof, would be most beneficial. If a smoker has enough motivation and support from family and friends to do it on his or her own, then nicotine gum, patches, or pills could be tried first.
Many people choose to join stop smoking programs such as Nicotine Anonymous, which is based on the traditional 12-step philosophy. There is also private and group counseling available to people who need more intensive support. A number of online stop smoking program options are also available consisting of therapy and support forums, herbal supplements, pills, and other potions. Be sure to research these stop smoking programs well before you expend any funds on something that just isn’t going to work for you.
These days technology is always coming out with new and extraordinary things, hence the quit smoking laser treatment. You should ask your family doctor about it now. You can easily head into the office for a quit smoking laser treatment and virtually curb that nicotine craving for weeks, or even months.
Whatever stop smoking program you choose is only as effective as your desire to quit. Without motivation to change your habits and lifestyle, your efforts will be for nothing. Plan a stop smoking program ahead of time. Pick a date to quit and get your support system in place. Plan how you are going to deal with temptation in social settings and times of stress, since this is probably when you have the greatest desire to smoke. A stop smoking program can be very successful if it is planned and adhered to by the person who wants to quit. Mind over matter, right? Next time go for a brisk walk or call a friend instead of lighting up, your lungs will thank you. Good Luck!!

If you decide to take the natural route, natural ways to lower blood pressure include monitoring your weight, exercise and food intake. Being overweight correlates with high blood pressure, so staying at optimal weight is good for your arterial walls. Optimal weight is achieved through healthy diet and exercise, so go for a run or hit the gym for at least 30 minutes for most of the days of the week.
In terms of what you eat, there are many things you can consume to keep blood pressure levels down, and there are things you should avoid that promote artery clogging. Substances that can help lower blood pressure are fiber, oats, Omega-3, Vitamins C and E, calcium, zinc, potassium and magnesium. That does not make them stupid by any means; it just means they are not yet web savvy enough to realize that things are not always correct. It really does depend on the source of the information and where you look to find it.
There are times when you do not want to think about getting medical advice online. This is when you have not been to a doctor in years and you are going through something that could really be serious. You could always look up your symptoms, but you do not want to self diagnose in this case. In fact, self-diagnosis is never a good idea anyway. You can look for medical advice online for reference, but you should leave the final diagnosis to a qualified medical professional. Your health and your life could be at stake.
You may find some tricks and tips when searching for medical advice online. What you have to do is to think about what you are reading. Does it make any sense? There could be deadly interactions of which you would never know. You can always try what you find through medical advice online, but always talk it over with your doctor first to be sure it is safe.
You may be asking yourself, “So, what are you saying? That I have to go to the doctor for every cough, pain, or cramp?” Not at all. Just know that not all sites are created equal. Protect your Child’s Emotional Well-Being
December 6, 2011 by Central Florida Magazine
Filed under Central Florida Living, Fitness & Wellness, Health & Beauty
In our effort to balance extremely full and hectic lives with our families and our jobs, we may perhaps have been neglecting an all-important facet of our child’s life: their emotional well-being. The first three years of a child’s life is a vital time. The drama involved in the changing of child care providers or having a ‘part-time’ parent float in and out of their lives can be really traumatic and destabilizing for them. It’s imperative that mother and father, educators, involved adults and care providers make a concerted joint effort to ensure that a child’s emotional needs are met on a daily basis, just as their physical needs are. The effects of not meeting a child’s emotional needs, specifically during the first three years, can have devastating consequences. Violent, disruptive or defiant behaviors often result from emotional neglect.
The very first 3 years of everyday living are crucial in a number of ways. This is when bonding and emotional separation takes place. If there are interruptions in either of these processes, misbehaviors from the child can result. This can later have an effect on their relationships later in life and hinder them in developing their own healthy relationships as adolescents or adults. Teenagers and adults who seem to be “socially awkward” are often that way due to emotional neglect sustained as a child.
Through the first three a long time of life, the brain goes through its most rapid development. By the time they’re 3 years-old, the brain is already ‘hardwired’ from the experiences they’ve had to that point. It is imperative that these be loving, supportive, safe, good experiences so the brain will be conditioned to expect positive things. If they’ve been frightening, hurtful, abusive, or dangerous, then the brain is conditioned to anticipate negative occurrences. These neurological tendencies often are sustained throughout a lifetime. A child who has suffered emotional abuse or neglect will struggle with these tendencies that are manifested in social behavior or thought processes for the rest of their lives.
For that reason it’s essential that parents, caregivers and other involved adults make a concerted effort to make sure the child’s emotional needs are met in a good, constructive and wholesome manner. Parents ought to ensure that the childcare providers are stable and consistent, and don’t move them around to several childcare providers during this critical phase. It is important to ensure that your child feels safe and secure with structured and consistent schedules and routines. Be sure to spend as much high quality time with your child as possible at this time, regardless of your otherwise busy and hectic lifestyle. Your child can sense that such a schedule is stressful to you and it can become a frightening or confusing element for them. Thus it is crucial to take time out to reassure them that you’re in no way too busy for them.
Remember that your child’s mental well-being is just as essential as their physical, so do your part to ensure your son or daughter knows he or she is growing up safe, secure, treasured and loved.
If you are a new dad or mom, you will have your hands full. And as a new dad or mom, your name and address has no question discovered its way on to a parent mailing list or new parent mailing list. Marketing organizations often collect your info to create a new parent list, which they market to a range of industries. Quite a few corporations will send you offers inside the mail for valuable items and services you may require as a new father or mother. You may want to watch your mailbox for these kinds of offers, as they can save you tons of time and money, along with provide you with great parenting tips and tricks!

Natural Ways To Treat Depression

11 billion dollars a year! That’s how much the anti-depressant medicine market makes in sales so you’ll NOT be surprised to learn that the pharmaceutical companies are doing everything to protect their interests. That includes the majority of doctors who are sometimes beholden towards the organizations and will play along in this awful game of prescribing medications which can have lasting and damaging unwanted side effects and will rarely mention that you will find natural ways to treat depression.
Medication might alleviate depressive disorders and certainly works in many cases but the medical community is blinkered when it comes to even thinking about treating despression symptoms without drug treatments.
Say alternative treatment for depression to a doctor and he will probably dismiss your suggestion out of hand. In the UK and in Europe, some doctors actively recommend alternative and complementary medicine and you can find health centres where there’s a wide range of treatments accessible for treating depression naturally. As well as acupuncture, massage, behavior therapy, relaxation exercises, you will find homeopathic remedies and of course herbal treatments which are booming in sales at the moment.
Regrettably, the bad news is that study on anti depressant medications is frequently rigged by the pharmaceutical firms so that final results seem significantly better than they really are. Needless to say, the companies will never bother with herbal remedies and will denigrate them nor will they be interested in healing despression symptoms without drugs.
The truth is always that the unwanted side effects of a herbal remedy like St. John’s Wort are far less damaging than the anti depressants unwanted side effects. We are talking about major problems associated with weight gain or weight loss and sexual issues which can boost depression rather than treat it. There is certainly an elevated risk of suicidal thoughts especially when treatment begins so this has to be monitored carefully. Add to that: mania attacks, paranoia, insomnia, agitation and aggression . With depression treatments such as St. John’s Wort, side effects will be as minor as dry mouth, constipation and restlessness.
Other techniques of managing depressive disorders naturally include lifestyle changes where the patient can follow a diet which is rich in mood enhancing foods (fish oils, Vitamin B, fruit ) and avoiding sugary foods which can lead to mood alterations which could only exacerbate depressive disorders. Doing exercise and getting a decent night’s sleep may be enormously beneficial.
You are able to discover just what is involved in managing depression normally by studying what is involved in natural ways to treat depression. One frequently forgotten truth is always that treating depression without having drug treatments (regardless of whether mild, moderate, severe and SAD ) often produces faster and safer results than the anti-depressant drugs.
